MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes Steve Clark has been reappointed as Government House Leader after stepping down as Minister of Housing and Rural Affairs in September due to the Greenbelt scandal.
In a significant cabinet reshuffle ahead of the summer break, longtime Education Minister Stephen Lecce has been moved to the Ministry of Energy and Electrification. Todd Smith takes over as the new Minister of Education, while Natalia Kusendova-Bashta is named Minister of Long-Term Care. Stan Cho assumes the role of Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming.
Premier Doug Ford emphasized the importance of team collaboration to foster economic growth during the announcement. The cabinet has been expanded to 36 members, introducing new associate minister positions and splitting some ministries to improve efficiency.
Among other notable changes, Mike Harris has been appointed as Minister of Red Tape Reduction. Todd McCarthy will now serve as Minister of Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement. Greg Rickford takes on the role of Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, while Graydon Smith becomes the Minister of Natural Resources. Neil Lumsden is the new Minister of Sport, and Lisa Thompson has been assigned as Minister of Rural Affairs.
This reshuffle follows the previous one in September 2023, which was necessitated by Monte McNaughton’s departure. The new appointments reflect Premier Ford’s strategic focus on strengthening his team to drive economic development and address critical issues in the province.
