A prolonged heat event continues today, with dangerously hot and humid conditions expected through most of the week.
Daytime highs will be between 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, with humidex values reaching up to 42.
Overnight, temperatures will drop to 19 to 23 degrees Celsius, but the humidex will still be 26 to 30.
Friday’s forecast is calling for a bit of a break, with the high 28 and an overnight low to 17.
This hot and humid weather can also worsen air quality, potentially pushing the Air Quality Health Index into the high-risk category.
People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and stay in cool places as much as possible. (Please don’t leave freezer doors open in the frozen food section, though).
The prolonged heat can pose serious health risks, especially for the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Find out more from the health unit here.
You can beat the heat with local cooling stations. Find out more about that here.
