A student from Perth has been awarded $500 from the MBC Media Community First Scholarship Program, simply for letting us know what community means to her.
In her audio application, Orria Neilsen says she recently spent some time in France, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She is graduating from PDCI and will begin her dream program of honours archeology in the fall. She knows that life will take her well beyond our borders.
The France trip did give her pause for thought.
Orria would like to be a lead excavator on dig sites, work with local indigenous people, and to study ancient Inca culture in Peru. There’s no doubt that missing her hometown will certainly come up again.
Over the years, Orria has volunteered in many ways. Among them, she has worked with female track athletes to help them gain confidence, and with Perth Youth Climate Circle top talk to elementary students about what they can do to help our environment.
Community for Orria, means mutual support.
She says while the past is unchanging, there’s always so much to learn. She intends to never stop exploring.
Congratulations, Orria!
