This past July 1st marked the 77th Anniversary for our health unit.
It actually started out as the Leeds and Grenville Health Unit back in 1947 before Lanark was included two decades later.
It’s been known as the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit ever since.
Current Medical Officer of Health Dr. Linna Li tells myFM the health unit’s mandate has grown with the people it serves.
The Doctor says it hasn’t been a journey the Health Unit hasn’t taken alone. Many partners are needed to grow to the point they’re at now.
And others have helped spread the word, which helps the general population know what the health unit has to offer.
As it stands, the health unit has offices in Brockville and Smiths Falls as well as service sites in Gananoque, Kemptville and Almonte. They also have sexual health clinic spaces in Perth, Carleton Place.
You can learn more on their website, www.healthunit.org.
You can listen to the complete conversation with Dr. Li, where she outlines what it is the health unit does for the communities it serves, below.
