Rideau Lakes council’s voted to provide naloxone to the fire department at no cost to them.
It was the reversal of a 2018 decision that saw the sitting members vote against it.
Fire Chief Gene Richardson recalls there was some concern at that time of liability, of which he said there’s none.
In her supporting comments, Councilor Paula Banks said she was surprised this wasn’t already implemented.
In 2023, 18 individuals died from confirmed or suspected opioid-related overdoses within Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District.
