A big bust south-east of our region may have kept some dangerous street drugs out of our communities.
On June 25, 2024, the Cornwall Police Service (CPS) executed a significant drug bust in that city, seizing approximately $1.3 million worth of cocaine and over $300,000 in cash.
This was part of Project Resurrection, a collaborative effort by the Cornwall Street Crime Unit, Cornwall Emergency Response Team, and Criminal Investigation Division, with support from the Smiths Falls Police Service, Canada Border Services Agency and the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario, along with other local police services in Ottawa, Brockville, and Kingston.
Two Cornwall residents, Rene Clement, 37, and Meagan Malone, 38, were arrested and face multiple charges, including possession of cocaine for trafficking and possession of prohibited devices.
Weapons, digital scales, and packaging materials were also found.
Chief Shawna Spowart emphasized the CPS’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the community.
