The Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) announced that it has cancelled plans to open 32 stores for limited in-store shopping due to an ongoing strike. Initially, the LCBO had said it would open some stores three days a week if the strike lasted more than two weeks.
However, in a new statement, the LCBO emphasized that it is now prioritizing its resources to support bars, restaurants, and other businesses. This decision comes as LCBO workers, represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), remain on strike since July 5.
The shift in strategy highlights the LCBO’s commitment to maintaining supply to commercial establishments despite the labor disruption. This move aims to minimize the strike’s impact on the hospitality sector, ensuring that bars and restaurants continue to receive the products they need.
For now, LCBO customers will need to rely on online orders and other available services, such as local agency stores, as the strike continues without an end in sight.
