Smiths Falls council is in favour of the Public Arts Master Plan, but it won’t be pushed through until the financials are sorted.
The horseshoe didn’t connect with the staff suggestion of allocating up to 1% of tax generated revenue for it.
That includes Councillor Jay Brennan.
Manager of Economic Development & Tourism Julia Crowder explained what the $190,000 would be used for.
Staff suggested the 1% allocation of tax revenue based on similar fiscal commitments made by other municipalities.
Councillor Chris McGuire believes grants must be available to cover the bulk of the costs for public art projects and that should be explored.
