Jury Recommendation number 84 from the inquiry into ending Intimate Partner Violence in Ontario says the feds must establish a Royal Commission to review and recommend changes to the Criminal Justice system, to make it more victim-centric, more responsive to root causes of crime, and more adaptable.
Lanark County Interval House’s Erin Lee has commented on every recommendation made by the jury for myFM. She says this reform is something that should be understood as necessary.
Lee says making changes that protect the victim will only improve the criminal justice system.
Lee, who testified at the inquiry, says the traditional justice system as we know it doesn’t work for either side. That has resulted in a lack of confidence in the system, especially from the perspective of the victim.
