The Village of Westport has been hit with unexpected costs.
They operate a two cell lagoon Wastewater Treatment System, and one pump saw its lower bearing prematurely fail, killing the motor within the casing in late July.
The resulting damage destroyed the pump.
Public Works staff ordered a new pump for around $50,000 but are in the middle of waiting eight to 10 weeks for it to arrive.
The village has rented a bypass pump in the interim, which costs about $16,000 per month, with a near $10,000 set up fee.
The extra expenses are being pulled from the operation budget.
