Tay Valley Township’s seeing development rates decline in recent years.
Reeve Rob Rainer believes it’s more of a land availability issue than anything else.
Land severances saw a new five-year low in 2023 and 29 housing building permits were issued, six fewer than the previous year and down from 72 in 2021.
They’re hoping to see an influx of mix-use developments such as communal housing become more common with what land is available.
But what’s needed first is supporting infrastructure, something Rainer is all about.
Communal systems could support anywhere between dozens to hundreds of units on a single site.
Construction began earlier this year on the first multi-unit development in Tay Valley’s history on 4th Concession in Bathurst.
