September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Month, and From September 15TH to the 21st, local landmarks will shine teal in support of the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency and its vital programs.
September 18th marks BB-BS Day, and local governments are making proclamations to raise awareness.
BB-BS Lanark County Executive Director Jennifer Miller says the campaign focuses on attracting new volunteers to become mentors, offering support and guidance to local children and youth.
Studies show that mentorship can help prevent issues such as depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. Miller says you can give back where you live.
But it’s not just mentoring. The organization raises the funds it uses for its programs. One of the way they do that is through their thrift stores “Jewels” which are in need of help.
In Lanark County, almost 50 young people are waiting to be matched with a mentor who can help them reach their full potential.
