Lanark County’s Community Support Services Manager Brooke Coutts spoke to Smiths Falls council about the waitlist for affordable housing.
She was asked by Mayor Shawn Pankow how long people are waiting for a place to live.
There’s also exceptions, such as those fleeing from domestic violence or human trafficking getting special priority, though Coutts says there’s also a wait in those situations as well.
There were 465 applicants, 254 of which were new on the waitlist in 2023, with 50 units offered another 48 turnovers.
