Carleton Place has been awarded $31,000 through the province’s Inclusive Communities Grant Program (ICGP) to enhance the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail (OVRT). The grant will fund improvements along a four-kilometre section of the trail, connecting the north and south ends of town.
Plans include installing 10 accessible benches along the OVRT, making it more inclusive for residents of all ages and abilities. The upgrades are part of the town’s Connecting Carleton Place Project.
Mayor Toby Randell says the improvements will create a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. Local MPP John Jordan believes these upgrades will encourage physical and social activity within the community, particularly for residents who may have previously found the trail inaccessible.
The work will begin this fall, overseen by the recreation and culture department, and is expected to be finished by March 2025.
