At Carleton Place council’s recent committee meeting, councilors provided preliminary approval to a new bylaw requiring certain businesses to pay for and install a back-flow prevention device on their properties’ water intake plumbing.
This requirement has been part of the Ontario building code since 2014 to prevent contamination of a municipal water system stemming from a low-pressure event.
Public Works Director Guy Bourgon explained the process to council.
The bylaw will now go to the next council meeting for ratification.
