The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating threats made against several schools in Kemptville and Iroquois, prompting closures today (Thursday).
The OPP say they received two separate phone calls overnight, each threatening violence at specific schools. One caller targeted St. Michael Catholic High School in Kemptville, while the other threatened Seaway District High School in Iroquois.
As a safety measure, the local school boards decided to close all Public and Catholic schools in Kemptville for the day. Seaway District High School and Iroquois Public School are also closed.
The OPP are treating the situation seriously and are working to identify the individuals behind the threats. Investigators have not yet confirmed if the threats are credible.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
Questions about closures or reopening should be directed to the schools or boards.
