With the Upper Canada District School Board expecting large cuts to transportation funding next year, they’re conducting a full boundary review for the Athens family of schools.
What initially prompted a look was a request from some families looking for accommodation for their out of boundary children to be picked up.
That’s a practice that happens across the board, says Superintendent of Schools Susan Rutters.
Trustee David McDonald said the board has a duty to ensure the money they spend benefits as many students as possible, rather than a select few.
The board anticipates significant future financial reductions in transportation funding that will impact the level of transportation service for eligible in-boundary students, and say they may be required to eliminate all out-of-boundary transportation as one element of a future strategy to address this financial challenge.
