A design for the Smiths Falls Confederation Bridge has been selected…again.
Council awarded the $2.1 million tender to StructureCraft Builders to install a timber pedestrian bridge.
The bridge will include timber, metal and stone in its construction, bringing a modern look with a nod to the past, says Councillor Chris McGuire.
The bridge will include a pair of viewing platforms, and StructureCraft told the town they’re in a position to have it in place by the end of this November.
This is not the first time council’s awarded a design tender. This past December, the horseshoe approved a concrete single bowstring bridge, but decided a month later to deviate from that decision and go back to the drawing board.
The old Confederation Bridge was decommissioned in 2015.
