Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis has been in the news recently as myFM reporter Grant Deme has been listed for a liver transplant as the disease has progressed to severe levels.
This is the third and final segment highlighting his journey. Last week we spoke to his brother Andrew about the impact the illness has had on his family.
PSC is a liver disease in which the bile ducts eventually become so scarred and inflamed over time, the liver cannot process toxins out properly, leading to cirrhosis.
But what exactly causes it? Co-Founder and President of PSC Partners Canada Mary Pressley Vyas said there’s only theories.
Vyas goes further, saying the sheer mystery from a medical standpoint around PSC continues.
PSC impacts between three and five thousand Canadians.
