Rideau Lakes is putting the former Delta Maple Syrup Factory to market for a few weeks to see if they can entice a buyer.
A recent study confirmed the long-vacant property is in disrepair, but council’s trying one more time to see if it attracts the eye of a developer before talking demolition.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom knows it’s a longshot.
Hoogenboom says it’s been at least two years before a serious inquiry into buying a part of the site has been made, and there’s been little interest in the years prior to that as well.
CAO Shellee Fournier says its cost the town nearly $433,000 so far in maintenance, taxes, reports and property standards to do nothing with the site.
Councillor Paula Banks shared her perspective.
Staff recommended knocking down the site and putting in a parking lot, which would cost about $350,000.
They’ll present an exact figure for a 2025 demolition if an offer isn’t received in the next few weeks.
