The postal strike continues. For local workers that means walking picket lines while negotiations are carried out on their behalf by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
Wendy Dowdell, a Rural Suburban Mail Carrier and Picket Captain with CUPW in Perth says local workers don’t want to be off the job, but their employer put them in a position where they have to.
Dowdell also recognizes that it isn’t an ideal time of the year for a mail stoppage, but notes talks started a while ago.
The union says getting government cheques to people who need them is a priority, and above their dispute with the Crown Corporation, that’s why those went out Wednesday.
Above all, Dowdell wants people in our listening area to know that the front line workers are caring people who are looking for a fair shake.
That said, the postal strike is showing no signs of ending. Neither side in the dispute has provided an update on talks.
