My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), parent company of 88.1 myFM, has made a couple of acquisitions, including a long-serving signal in the Town of Smiths Falls.
MBC President Jon Pole says a deal is in place to acquire CJET 92.3 FM.
The purchase is pending CRTC approval, so this is considered early days, but Pole says operations at 88.1 myFM means that work is already underway to bring local radio back to the people of Smiths Falls.
Pole says the company is excited about the move which is primarily about keeping the community connected and informed.
It also means that there will once again be a radio presence in the town. 88.1 myFM already covers the town by attending events and covering the news. That’s going to be stepped up.
MBC announced the agreement with Rogers Sports & Media to purchase CJET-FM at the same time it announced an agreement to purchase CKOT-FM and CJDL-FM in Tillsonburg.
The transaction is subject to approval from the Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).
Further details will be shared as the purchase process develops.
