Rideau Lakes Grassroots Group Spokesperson Wendy Alford addresses Rideau Lakes council
Rideau Lakes Township council approved an amendment to its Procedural By-Law that changes how delegations participate in meetings. The amendment will require all delegations to submit a written statement or presentation by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday before regular meetings. These documents would then be included in the meeting agenda package.
The amendment also outlines stricter rules for delegation conduct. Delegates will be prohibited from using disrespectful or offensive language, speaking off-topic, or returning to speak on the same subject. Additionally, they cannot engage in debates, promote publicity, or question the motives of council members or staff.
Council aims to maintain respectful and orderly meetings with these changes. The proposal emphasizes transparency and professionalism, aligning with the Township’s commitment to effective governance. The new rules come into effect in immediately.
