Three teens and a 12 year-old are facing multiple charges after a string of incidents involving a stolen car and dangerous driving from Smiths Falls to Cornwall on January 1, 2025.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the chaos began early Wednesday when reports of reckless driving emerged in Smiths Falls. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in Kemptville, where a driver narrowly missed hitting a police officer while fleeing.
The pursuit ended in Spencerville after the car veered off the road. Police arrested four youths and seized suspected cocaine, other drugs, alcohol, and weapons.
A 15-year-old female from Tay Valley Township has been charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Flight from a peace officer
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
A 15-year-old male, a 15-year-old female, a 12-year-old female, all from Smiths Falls, have been charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule 1 substance
- Possession of a Schedule 3 substance
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime-over $5000
The 15-year-old male faces an additional charge of failure to comply with an undertaking. The Smiths Falls Police has also charged the male with:
- Dangerous operation of a vehicle
- Flight from a peace officer
- Possession of property obtained by crime-over $5000
Two of the suspects were released while two others were held in custody.
The teens cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The OPP confirm that the incidents are connected to earlier Smiths Falls Police reports of missing youth.
OPP and Smiths Falls Police are investigating additional incidents in Cornwall.
