Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in East Region charged 10 more impaired drivers during the last week of the Festive RIDE campaign, which ended January 1.
Since the program began on November 21, a total of 113 impaired driving charges were laid. Officers conducted nearly 1,200 RIDE checks across eastern Ontario, ensuring roads were safe over the holiday season.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm praised officers’ efforts, saying, “Even one impaired driver is too many. Our officers’ dedication made a difference.”
In addition to the charges, officers issued 29 warning-range suspensions, temporarily taking away licences and impounding vehicles.
While Festive RIDE has concluded, police remind drivers that RIDE programs continue year-round. Impaired driving remains a serious risk.
The OPP urges residents to call 9-1-1 if they suspect an impaired driver. Reporting could prevent a tragedy and save lives.
