Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) responded to a house fire at 2557 County Road 29 in Pakenham on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Around 30 firefighters arrived to quickly contain the blaze, which affected the basement and kitchen areas of the home.
“No one was home at the time, and while there was significant damage due to fire and smoke, there were no injuries,” said MMFD Deputy Fire Chief Justin Hemsley.
Fire departments from Carleton Place, Arnprior, Beckwith, and Ottawa provided mutual aid, with Perth Fire Department covering Lanark County during the response. A small detour was set up for traffic.
Mayor Christa Lowry thanked the MMFD and neighbouring departments for their quick response. “Our dedicated volunteer firefighters are second to none,” she said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
