Reaction to the impending closure of Algonquin College’s Perth Campus has been disappointment.
The phased process, expected to conclude by summer 2026, will allow current students to finish their programs.
“Algonquin College has been a cornerstone of our community since 1970,” said Mayor Judy Brown. Known for its heritage trades programs, the campus has helped shape careers and preserved Perth’s historic charm.
The campus provided rural residents with access to post-secondary education in a smaller, community-focused setting.
Mayor Brown acknowledged the financial challenges driving the decision, including frozen tuition fees and reduced international student enrollment. “We will deeply feel the loss of these programs and the campus as a whole,” she said.
