Ontario Green Party candidate for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands & Rideau Lakes, Fiona Jager says the province’s healthcare system is in crisis, with 2.5 million Ontarians lacking a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
Jager criticized the Ford government for shifting healthcare costs onto municipalities. Brockville recently added a healthcare levy, while Leeds and Grenville committed $186,000 to a recruitment firm. She says this unfairly burdens smaller communities.
The Ontario Greens propose hiring 3,500 doctors over five years by expanding medical school seats and residency spaces for international graduates. Their plan also includes better funding for rural hospitals and family health teams, along with fair pay for healthcare workers traveling to patients.
Jager urges voters to choose the Greens in the February 27 election, promising real action to fix Ontario’s struggling healthcare system.
