Cornerstone Landing Youth Services is in dire need of public help after receiving unexpected news about its funding.
On Tuesday, the organization was informed it would not be receiving a much-needed extension for staff funding, which had been supported for the past six years through the federal Rural and Remote stream of Reaching Home.
Cornerstone’s Terrilee Kelford, says without this funding, the charity would likely face program closures and staff layoffs by April 1, 2025.
The funding process is highly competitive, with $12 million in applications vying for only $4 million in available resources.
Cornerstone Landing, which supports youth aged 16 to 24 facing homelessness in Lanark County, is now looking for donations and urging community members to participate in the Coldest Night of the Year event this weekend.
