Perth Councillor Gary Waterfield
At a short Perth council meeting on February 18th, Councillor Gary Waterfield withdrew his motion to seek possible areas of shared programs, services, and service deliveries and possible amalgamation with at least one or more of the Townships of Drummond North Elmsley, Tay Valley and Lanark Highlands.
He expressed his belief that there was no political will for the idea.
Council’s committee had originally recommended deferring the discussion to next year. Waterfield stated he would continue to seek improved finances for the Town.
His fellow councillors felt there were no cost savings in amalgamation and it was doubtful if the other Townships would agree to even fund a study.
