The Coldest Night of the Year walks took place in over 200 Canadian communities on February 22nd and Lanark County was well represented thanks to the efforts of Cornerstone Landing Youth Services.
Since 2011, the Coldest Night of the Year has raised over $75 million across 190 communities in Canada.
100% of the net proceeds stay local, supporting CNOY charity partners in their efforts to help those in need.
98 walkers took part in either a 2 or 5 km route around Carleton Place and participants, such as Natalie felt compelled to participate.
Her walk partner Sabrina shared similar reasons for making the trek.
Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow had high praise for Cornerstone Landing and supported the cause by completing a 5 km loop.
To date, the Lanark event has raised $35K or about 87% of their $40K goal. Elle Halladay with Cornerstone reports that public support has been increasing since the news of the loss of their federal funding.
Donations are still being accepted and are easy to provide as Elle explains.
