A group of community-minded residents of Mississippi Mills has recently created a community fund to be able to eventually grant monies to local charities.
Margaret Miller, a steering committee member of the Mississippi Mills Community Fund explains what it is.
Endowment funds grow through careful investments, allowing grants to be made from the returns, leaving the original fund intact to continue growing. It’s a long-term plan according to Miller.
When it comes to deciding which charities receive funding, Miller says it’s a very local and transparent process.
