Throwing batteries in the garbage or recycling bin is dangerous, and Smiths Falls officials are reminding residents to dispose of them properly.
Batteries can cause fires and release harmful chemicals if not handled correctly. Instead of tossing them out, residents can drop off used batteries for safe recycling at several locations, including Giant Tiger, Town Hall, Smiths Falls Public Library, Rexall Pharmacy (Beckwith Street location), and Canadian Tire.
The town’s campaign, #ReadyRecycleRepeat, encourages people to make battery recycling a habit. Officials say the convenient drop-off locations make it easy to protect the environment and prevent potential hazards.
Residents are urged to check their homes for old batteries and dispose of them at a designated collection site. For more details, visit the Town of Smiths Falls website
