All signs point to Rideau Lakes calling a by-election to fill the vacant Ward 3 seat following the resignation of Joan Delaney.
Delaney resigned earlier this month citing “rather inappropriate behaviour,” from fellow councillors as one of the reasons.
This’ll be the second by-election council has held, the first occurring in 2023 following the passing of sitting Councillor Cathy Livingston.
CAO Shellee Fournier said council did have other options available to fill the seat.
Councillor Deborah Anne Hutchings explained why her preference is a by-election.
The rest of council unanimously agreed to proceed with a by-election over an appointment.
Delaney’s seat will be officially declared vacant at the April 7th council meeting, where staff will also present a by-law to begin the by-election process and council will vote on whether or not to proceed.
The election date will be determined later, with the hopes the new councillor joins the table by July.
