Unseasonably warm temperatures and up to 25 mm of rain are expected to raise water levels across the Rideau Valley Watershed, with localized flooding possible in low-lying areas.
A Flood Watch is in effect for North Gower’s Stevens Creek and Taylor Drain, where rapid snowmelt and rainfall could cause flooding beginning March 16. A Flood Outlook Statement remains in place for the rest of the watershed.
Water levels and flows may increase quickly, weakening ice cover and creating hazardous conditions near lakes, rivers, and ditches. Stormwater systems may also see ponding as frozen ground limits absorption. Thunderstorms could bring additional rainfall, further increasing flood risks.
The Rideau River is expected to peak between March 18-20. Residents should take precautions and stay clear of fast-moving water. For updates, visit www.rvca.ca.
