Lanark County Council has passed a resolution supporting the Team Canada approach in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.
With 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian exports and 10 per cent on energy, the county is calling on the federal and provincial governments to remove procurement barriers and ease inter-provincial trade restrictions.
Ontario municipalities are expected to spend up to $290 billion on infrastructure over the next decade. The resolution highlights the importance of fair trade and urges all levels of government to support Canadian businesses.
Lanark County has committed to a “Buy Canadian” policy for routine purchases while remaining within existing trade agreements. The motion will be widely shared with government officials.
Council says municipalities play a crucial role in supporting Canadian industries and ensuring local economies remain strong. For details, contact Clerk Jasmin Ralph at 1-888-9-LANARK, ext. 1502.
