Rideau Lakes is terminating their automatic aid agreement with the Smiths Falls Fire Department.
SFFD Chief Rick Chesebrough says their mutual aid agreement, where they’ll be available for significant emergencies, will remain.
A “normal,” call Chesebrough clarified are calls for things such as an alarm going off or the smell of smoke.
Chesebrough says they’re ready to help their bordering Township whenever they need.
They cannot attend those more routine calls however without the blessing of Rideau Lakes council.
The automatic aid agreement expires December 31, 2025.
