Lanark County Paramedic Services Chief Travis Mellema says the new medical priority dispatch system is the “gold standard” program and only improves their ability to serve.
Used across the world, Ontario only in the past couple of years began implementing it province-wide and it’s now in use in our region as the rollout continues.
Mellema says the MPDS is able to prioritize calls and resources to resulting in better patient outcomes.
He adds paramedics even play a role in helping fine tune the system.
Mellema says their previous system had 32 identifiers to help determine a call’s urgency, while this one has over 2,300.
