The total call volume continues to rise year-over-year for the Smiths Falls Fire Department.
After a slow start in January, by year end they responded to 307 calls in 2024, up 11 from 2023.
Fire Chief Rick Chesebrough says this trend isn’t unique.
It’s the fifth straight year where there’s been an year-over-year increase.
Chesebrough says there’s many factors as to why that’s the case.
He noted major weather events also lead to call spikes and those have increased in frequency.
