Maple syrup producers are calling it a record season as they get ready for the annual Festival of the Maples on Saturday, April 26.
With warm days and freezing nights lasting into April, sap flowed fast across Lanark County. Tressa Oliver of Oliver’s Maple Works said her family boiled sap 20 times in 30 days.
Festival visitors can expect loads of fresh syrup, taffy, candy, and other maple treats.
Organized by the Perth & District Chamber of Commerce, the festival runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with over 100 vendors and live music on two stages.
Families can enjoy a pancake breakfast, a petting zoo, pony rides, a firefighter obstacle course, and a rock-climbing wall.
Chamber Executive Director Paloma Mazer says they expect another crowd of 15,000 to 20,000 people.
Free parking and a shuttle are available from Algonquin College Perth Campus.
