
Families receiving childcare subsidies from Lanark County will be given a little bit more leeway.
The Community Services committee agreed to extend the allowed absence days from 25 to 30 if a child attends a before or after school program full time, and from 15 to 20 days for part time.
Councillor Peter McKenna said each family is different and wanted to ensure the limit isn’t a hard count.
Children’s Services Manager Katie Mitchell says are flexible with special circumstances.
Mitchell says they’ve noticed a climb in absences across the board, and they want to make sure the policy change is fair.
Mitchell confirmed families do need to provide proof if an absence is health-related.
