A 19-year-old Gatineau man is facing impaired driving and assault charges after a high-speed chase and arrest that left two officers with minor injuries.
Members of the Leeds County OPP responded around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, after a citizen reported suspicious activity between three people in a parked vehicle on Highway 15. The vehicle then sped off toward Smiths Falls.
Police from Leeds OPP and Smiths Falls Police Service found the vehicle at a gas station in Smiths Falls. After investigating, they arrested Okon Dibaud, who police say resisted arrest and injured two officers.
Dibaud faces charges of impaired operation by alcohol and drugs, impaired operation over the legal limit, two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest, and two counts of resisting a peace officer.
The accused was released and will appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on May 23.
