The proposed redesign of Lower Reach Park
Smiths Falls council is moving ahead with the redesign of the Lower Reach Park, approving the parking lot and entrance locations at their recent meeting.
They also adopted the full park redesign in principle.
Mayor Shawn Pankow’s concerned about the proximity of the ball diamond and dog park.
There’s still details to work out with the layout of the $14.3 million plan, and it’s likely to change several times over in the coming years.
Councillor Chris McGuire feels there’s been an oversight on the initial approach to the 53-acre waterfront overhaul.
Councillor Jay Brennan stressed nothing about this plan is finalized.
The site as-is will included new soccer fields, ball diamonds, bocce and pickleball courts.
It’ll also include a central plaza, enhanced trail systems, an upgraded pier for paddling and finishing, as well as a potential swimming beach including accessibility features.
