As part of Emergency Preparedness Week, the South East Health Unit is urging people to be ready for anything by building emergency kits and getting ready for changing weather.
Dr. Linna Li, Deputy Medical Officer of Health, says the health unit helps share information about how to stay safe during storms, floods, smog, and power outages.
She warns that climate change is bringing more extreme weather events each year.
Dr. Li says we should have emergency kits including such things as non-perishable food, water, medicine, flashlights, a radio, and supplies for kids, seniors, and pets.
Senior Public Health Inspector Joyce MacNeil says this year’s theme, “Plan for Every Season”, reflects that messaging.
Dr. Li also suggests making an emergency kit for your pet too that includes much of what we would pack for ourselves.
