Intimate partner violence calls nearly double in Smiths Falls from February to March

Smiths Falls Police responded to 19 calls for intimate partner violence in March, up from 11 in February.

Deputy Chief Chris Kettyle said there’s a rise across the board with violent crimes.

Kettyle says there’s been a societal mood shift, and that could be why there’s been the increase.

Smiths Falls Police responded to a record amount of IPV related calls in 2024.

In April, Police Chief Jody Empey called for more accountability and follow through on programs intended to rehabilitate abusive partners.
