Rideau Lakes is celebrating the grand opening of the Portland Community Hall and Library Saturday.
Deputy Mayor Paula Banks says this will be a great addition to residents.
Banks gave kudos to staff for getting this project to the finish line.
The original plan was to include municipal offices within the hall but that was later removed from the scope at council’s discretion. Mayor Arie Hoogenboom expressed his frustration in a 2023 interview with myFM following that decision.
Banks told myFM last month this is what residents had asked for and what they’ve provided, and everyone is going to be thrilled to see the new digs.
The grand opening goes from 1 to 4 p.m. and will feature live music, speeches and a ribbon-cutting at 24 Water Street.
