Two Smiths Falls residents face multiple charges after a single-vehicle collision on Maitland Street just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
An off-duty officer stopped to help but the two occupants fled on foot into nearby woods. They later turned themselves in to police.
Crystal Flegg, 22, faces charges including operation while impaired by alcohol, obstructing justice, fail to remain, fail to report an accident, careless driving, and common nuisance.
John Mason, 20, is charged with obstructing justice, fail to remain, fail to report an accident, and common nuisance.
Both were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on June 23, 2025.
Flegg’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police remind drivers to stay at the scene and never drive impaired.
