Last year Mississippi Mills partnered with BuildingIN, an organization that works with municipalities to address housing challenges by supporting the development of multi-unit low-rise infill housing.
Staff recently delivered an update report.
On the table were proposals to consider permitting 12 residential units as a right on selected properties in Almonte should the land-owner wish to develop.
Part of this plan would see no requirement for a builder to supply on-site parking, using the streets instead.
These features didn’t sit well with Deputy Mayor Rickie Minnelle.
Staff presented a map of Almonte indicating which properties might have the new higher-density limits. Mayor Christa Lowry noted her reservations but admitted new approaches were needed to solve the housing crisis.
Council’s committee voted to accept the report and direct staff to consider implementation options for future Zoning by-law amendments to be brought back for further deliberations
