
Rideau Lakes councillors will now be able to answer public questions directed at them instead of having the meeting’s chair answer on their behalf.
It’s another tweak to the procedural by-law, this one put forth by Councillor Paula Banks, who takes issue with how Mayor Arie Hoogenboom conducts meetings.
Banks feels Hoogenboom doesn’t enforce the rules enough when she’s involved.
Hoogenboom said he’s doing his job.
The motion also asks the procedural by-law be strictly enforced, to ensure no members including Hoogenboom speak more twice per agenda item.
Council has asked staff to bring forward recommendations to ensure fairness, accuracy, and consistency exists in council proceedings.
