Brent Sullivan is the new assistant coach with the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL.
The owner of the Carleton Place Canadians says the opportunity came up when the club was scouting one of his players.
The Olympiques later signed Finn Barton, who makes the jump to major junior alongside Sullivan.
A former defenceman with the OHL’s Sarnia Sting, Sullivan says that’ll be his main focus when the season starts.
Sullivan said Gatineau is the perfect fit as it allows him to live at home and care for family, the reason he stepped away from a short coaching stint with the Sting two years ago.
Cole Burton will take over as head coach of the Canadians, which Sullivan said was always the plan for next season.
Burton led the Jr. Canadians to consecutive EOJHL Finals in his first two seasons behind the bench. The look for the next Jr. Canadians head coach continues.
This marks the second QMJHL hire this offseason with Carleton Place ties as earlier this summer the Cape Breton Eagles named ex-Canadians Owner Jason Clarke, who sold the team to Sullivan, head coach.
